American Standard Repair in Denver

American Standard heating and cooling equipment shares its engineering with Trane, and you will find plenty of it in Denver-area homes. This page walks through the furnace LED codes, the 60-day registration rule and what happens to coverage when you buy a house with an American Standard system. MrFixer repairs American Standard equipment in or out of warranty.

What American Standard owners in Colorado call about

Many of the American Standard systems we service were inherited with a house. New owners often do not know the system's age, whether it was registered or when it was last serviced, and the first sign of trouble is a furnace that will not stay lit on the first cold night or an air conditioner that cannot keep up in July.

The repairs themselves follow Colorado patterns: flame sensors coated with residue, igniters that crack after years of cycling, pressure switch faults from icy or snow-blocked PVC venting on high-efficiency models, blower motors and capacitors that give out in summer, and outdoor coils clogged by cottonwood or damaged by hail. Because American Standard and Trane share designs, parts and diagnostic logic are often the same, which helps when sourcing repairs on older units.

If you just bought the house, the most useful thing you can do is find the model and serial number labels on the furnace and outdoor unit and photograph them. That tells us the equipment's age and lets you check warranty status before anything breaks.

American Standard furnace LED codes

Most American Standard gas furnaces report status with an LED on the control board, visible through the blower door. A slow flash typically means normal operation with no call for heat, and a fast flash means the furnace is responding to a call for heat. A steady light that never flashes can indicate a control board problem. Fault codes are a count of flashes followed by a pause.

The examples below come from an independent troubleshooting reference covering American Standard and Trane furnaces, and they match Trane's own service literature for the flash counts we list. Boards differ between generations, so use the chart on your furnace door as the final word. Five flashes, flame sensed with the gas valve off, means you should shut the furnace's gas supply off and call.

Warranty registration, transfers and labor

American Standard's Registered Limited Warranty requires registration within 60 days of installation and can extend parts coverage to 10 years, depending on the product. Equipment registered late, or never registered, receives the Base Limited Warranty, typically 5 years of parts. Neither covers labor; labor coverage only comes from an optional extended warranty.

Transfers matter for home buyers. Only Registered Limited Warranties can be transferred, for a $99 fee, and the transfer must be completed within 90 days of the home sale. Products registered before August 1, 2011 cannot be transferred. If you bought a home with a newer American Standard system, check the transfer deadline right away; it is easy to miss during a move.

Altitude and newer American Standard equipment

Every gas furnace installed in the Denver metro needs the gas input and venting set up according to the high-altitude section of its installation manual. An American Standard furnace that overfires will trip its limit switch, and one with marginal combustion air or venting will show pressure switch faults. We measure gas pressure and temperature rise on every heating call to rule out setup issues before replacing parts.

On the cooling side, American Standard began phasing in R-454B refrigerant in 2024, starting with residential products such as the Silver 15 heat pump. Older systems use R-410A and remain serviceable, but if you are replacing only part of a system, refrigerant and coil compatibility need to be checked.

Repair or replace your American Standard system

A single failed part such as an igniter, flame sensor, capacitor or inducer is almost always worth repairing. A failed heat exchanger or compressor on a system more than a decade old, especially an unregistered one with only base coverage, is where replacement deserves a look. We give upfront written prices for both so you can compare.

If you are thinking about moving away from gas, our heat pump vs furnace guide explains how cold-climate heat pumps handle Front Range winters, and our NOx rules guide covers what Colorado's gas furnace rules mean for replacements. Book furnace repair or AC repair any time, 24/7.

A quick checklist before you call

Some American Standard no-heat calls can be solved in minutes by the homeowner. Check that the thermostat is set to heat and the setpoint is above room temperature. Replace the filter if it is grey or bowed. Confirm the service switch near the furnace is on and the breaker has not tripped. On a high-efficiency model, walk outside and make sure both white PVC pipes are clear of snow, ice and leaves. Then look at the LED through the blower door and write down what it is doing.

If none of that brings the heat back, or if you smell gas, leave the furnace off and call us. If you smell gas, leave the house first and call your gas utility from outside.

American Standard and Trane come from the same parent company and share engineering and many parts, but they are marketed as separate brands with separate warranty documents.

How long do I have to register an American Standard system?

60 days from installation for the Registered Limited Warranty. After that, the Base Limited Warranty applies, typically 5 years of parts.

I bought a house with an American Standard system. Can I get the warranty?

Only Registered Limited Warranties transfer, for a $99 fee, within 90 days of the home sale, and products registered before August 1, 2011 cannot transfer.

What does a steady, non-flashing LED on my American Standard furnace mean?
