Trusted HVAC Service in Columbine

Columbine is an unincorporated community of about 25,000 people, mostly in Jefferson County with a sliver in Arapahoe County, stretching south toward Chatfield Reservoir. It grew fast between 1958 and 1968, when the Martin Company built its missile facility in Waterton Canyon, and its population first passed 20,000 in 1980. Most homes were built from the 1960s through the 1990s: brick ranches, split-levels, bi-levels and two-story Colonials around Columbine Knolls, Columbine West, Columbine Hills and Leawood.

That housing stock shapes the HVAC work. Furnaces in these homes have been replaced at least once, usually on original ductwork, and split-level and bi-level layouts are notorious for uneven temperatures between floors. Many central air systems were added after the homes were built, on ducts sized for heat. When a newer furnace or condenser struggles, the cause is often airflow, not the equipment.

Because Columbine has no city government, replacement permits come from Jefferson County Building Safety, or Arapahoe County for the few homes on that side. We handle the permit, run a carbon monoxide and combustion safety test on every furnace call, and give a flat-rate price before any repair.

Local Climate Note

At about 5,542 feet, furnaces need altitude setup and AC capacity drops slightly in thinner air. Front Range summer hail regularly damages condenser coils.

FAQs about HVAC in Columbine

Common questions from Columbine homeowners.

Is Columbine part of Littleton?

No. Columbine has Littleton mailing addresses but is an unincorporated community. Most of it is under Jefferson County for permits, with a small part in Arapahoe County.

Why is my bi-level so uneven between floors?

The lower level sits partly below grade and stays cool, while the upper level gains heat. One thermostat and limited returns make it worse. Damper and blower adjustments, added returns or zoning can help.

Do you work on 1960s homes with original ductwork?

Yes. Most Columbine homes have newer equipment on older ducts, and we check the ducts and venting as part of the diagnosis.

Who pulls the permit for a furnace or AC replacement?

We do. In the Jefferson County part of Columbine, that's a mechanical permit from Jefferson County Building Safety, plus an electrical permit for AC work.
