York Repair in Denver

York furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps are found throughout the Denver metro, often alongside their siblings Coleman and Luxaire. York furnace control boards report faults with red and green LED flashes that are worth learning. This page also covers York's 90-day registration rule and what Colorado conditions do to York systems.

What York owners in Colorado call about

Most York heating calls we take involve one of three things: the furnace tries to ignite three times and locks out for an hour, the pressure switch will not close because a PVC vent or condensate line is blocked or frozen, or a limit switch trips because airflow is restricted. York's red LED tells you which, which is why the next section matters.

On the cooling side, York air conditioners and heat pumps share the Front Range problems every brand sees: failed capacitors and contactors, refrigerant leaks, cottonwood-clogged coils and hail damage. Our furnace repair and AC repair technicians see these weekly.

York furnace LED codes

Many York furnaces, including the TM9M series, use a control board with a green status LED and a red fault LED. One green flash means normal operation with no call for heat; two green flashes means no codes are stored; three means stored codes were just cleared. A rapid green flash means the board is in factory speed-up mode, and cycling power exits it.

Red flashes report faults. The list below comes from the TM9M installation manual. Two codes deserve special caution: one red flash means flame was detected with no power to the gas valve, and five flashes means the rollout switch opened. Both are safety-related, so turn the furnace off and call rather than resetting. Seven and eight flashes trigger a one-hour lockout, after which the furnace retries.

York warranty registration: 90 days

York's warranty page states that its lifetime, Complete Assurance and 10-year parts coverage require online registration within 90 days of installation. Registered equipment gets 10 years of parts instead of the standard 5, a lifetime heat exchanger warranty instead of the standard 20 years, and, where applicable, a lifetime compressor warranty instead of 5 or 10 years. Complete Assurance can provide a furnace replacement if the heat exchanger fails within 5 years on LX models or 10 years on premium models.

Exceptions are listed by model: for example, TL9E and TL8E furnaces carry a 20-year heat exchanger warranty, and three-phase equipment has shorter terms. Coleman uses the same 90-day rule for its registered coverage. If your York was installed recently, confirm with your installer that it was registered.

Altitude and York gas furnaces

York furnaces installed in the Denver metro must be set up per the high-altitude section of their installation manuals. When that step is missed, the furnace can overfire and cycle on its limit (four red flashes on TM9M-style boards) or struggle with ignition and flame recycles (seven and eight flashes). We check gas pressure, temperature rise and venting on every heating call.

Altitude also makes York pressure switches less forgiving of marginal venting, so on a high-efficiency York the cause of a two- or three-flash code is often the vent or condensate drain rather than the switch itself.

York, Coleman and Luxaire

York, Coleman and Luxaire residential equipment is built by the same residential HVAC business, which historically belonged to Johnson Controls; Coleman's site still lists JC Residential and Light Commercial LLC, and its registration runs through the same product registration system. York's residential site now lists BHC Residential & Light Commercial LLC as the copyright holder and uses the YORK trademark under license from Johnson Controls, and Bosch Home Comfort Group lists YORK among its brands. Ownership changes do not affect how the equipment is repaired, and we service all three badges.

Because the brands share platforms, parts and fault codes often carry across, which helps us diagnose older Coleman and Luxaire units as well.

If you have a Coleman or Luxaire system, the same practical advice applies: find the model and serial number on the rating plate, check registration status before a major repair, and read the fault LED before cycling power. Coleman's registration, like York's, must be completed online within 90 days of installation to unlock its longer coverage, except in California and Quebec. Equipment installed years ago under the Johnson Controls name remains fully serviceable today.

Repair or replace your York

For a registered York with a failed heat exchanger, start with the warranty, including Complete Assurance if your model qualifies. For older, unregistered equipment with a major failure, we provide written pricing for both repair and replacement. If you are considering electric heat, our heat pump vs furnace guide covers the trade-offs in Colorado, and we install furnaces and heat pumps.

How old is your York? Type the serial number into our HVAC age decoder to see the build date.

York FAQs

What does 3 red flashes mean on a York furnace?

On TM9M-style boards it means the pressure switch is open when it should be closed. In Colorado, check for a blocked or frozen vent or condensate line, then book furnace repair if it continues.

How long do I have to register a York system?

York requires online registration within 90 days of installation for its lifetime, Complete Assurance and 10-year parts coverage.

Are York, Coleman and Luxaire the same?

They are built by the same residential HVAC business and share platforms and parts, though models and warranties are branded separately.

What does a rapid green flash on my York furnace mean?

On TM9M-style boards it means the control is in factory speed-up mode. Turning power off and back on returns it to normal.

Does MrFixer repair York equipment out of warranty?

Yes. We repair York, Coleman and Luxaire equipment in or out of warranty across the Denver metro. Call (720) 466-7983.
