Goodman Repair in Denver
Goodman is one of the most widely installed furnace and air conditioner brands in Denver, especially in builder-grade and rental homes. Here is how to read a Goodman furnace's blinking light, why the 60-day registration window matters so much for Goodman owners, and what to know about altitude and the brand's switch to R-32. MrFixer repairs Goodman systems in or out of warranty.
Goodman problems we see in Denver homes
Because Goodman equipment is common in tract homes, townhomes and rentals around the metro, we see a lot of it, often installed in tight closets or attics where airflow is marginal. That shows up as high-limit trips in winter and frozen evaporator coils in summer. Other frequent calls: ignition lockouts from dirty flame sensors, failed hot surface igniters, inducer motors that get noisy before they quit, and capacitors that fail on the first 95-degree day.
High-efficiency Goodman furnaces vent through PVC pipes that can be blocked by drifting snow or frost during a cold snap, which trips the pressure switch. A frozen condensate line does the same thing. These are often fixed without parts, which is why our furnace repair technicians check venting and drains before anything else.
Goodman furnace flash codes
Goodman furnaces have a red or amber LED on the control board, usually visible through a sight glass in the lower door. A steady light normally means the control has power and no fault; no light means no power to the board. Fault codes are a number of flashes followed by a pause. The table below comes from an independent service reference covering Goodman, Amana and Daikin furnaces and matches Goodman's GKS9 manual for the codes it lists.
The control automatically retries after a one-hour lockout, and the code clears if power is interrupted, so write it down first. Six flashes (rollout switch open) is not a code to reset and ignore: it can indicate a cracked or plugged heat exchanger, and the furnace should be inspected before it is run again.
Goodman warranty registration: why 60 days matters
Goodman's warranty page says to register online within 60 days of installation (or of buying a new home from the builder). Registering extends parts coverage from 5 to 10 years, gives gas furnaces a lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty for as long as you own the home, and on select air conditioners adds a lifetime compressor limited warranty for the original registered owner. Select models also carry a 10-year unit replacement limited warranty, but only if registered within the 60 days.
California, Florida, Georgia and Quebec residents get registered-owner rights without registering. Colorado is not on that list, so a Goodman system that was never registered is usually down to 5 years of parts. Enhanced coverage lasts while the original registered owner or spouse owns and lives in the home, so landlords and second owners should check their actual terms before a repair.
Altitude and refrigerant notes
Goodman's installation manuals call for different gas orifices above 2,000 feet and list high-altitude kits for some installations, with input checked again after the change. At Denver elevations, a Goodman furnace that was installed with sea-level orifices can overfire and trip limits. We verify gas pressure and temperature rise on every heating call.
Goodman, along with Amana and Daikin, has switched new residential heat pump systems from R-410A to R-32, a single-component refrigerant rather than a blend. Existing R-410A Goodman systems can still be serviced, but R-32 and R-410A equipment are not interchangeable, so replacing only the outdoor unit on an older system requires planning.
Repair or replace your Goodman, and its sister brands
Goodman, Amana and Daikin residential equipment come from the same corporate family: Amana equipment is manufactured under license by Daikin, and Goodman and Daikin share warranty systems. That means parts and diagnostic approach overlap heavily. For a registered Goodman with a failed compressor or heat exchanger, start with the warranty; for an unregistered, older unit with a major failure, we will price repair and replacement side by side in writing.
If you are weighing a new system, see our guide to heat pumps vs furnaces in Colorado, or ask about furnace installation and heat pump installation.
Notes for landlords and second owners
A lot of Goodman equipment in the metro sits in rentals and homes that have changed hands. Because Goodman's enhanced coverage depends on registration by the original owner, a tenant or new owner should not assume the 10-year terms apply. Find the serial number on the furnace or condenser label and check it with Goodman's warranty lookup before authorizing a large repair.
Landlords should also keep the installation invoice and any maintenance records with the property file. When a part is covered, the claim moves faster if the install date and model are documented. We include the model, serial number and failed part on every written invoice to make that easy, and we can schedule around tenants for non-emergency work.

Goodman Error Codes
| Code | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Steady on | Normal operation |
| No light | No 115 V power to the furnace or no 24 V to the control (breaker, switch, door switch or the control's 3 A fuse) |
| 1 flash | Lockout after repeated failed ignition (3 tries); the control retries on its own after one hour |
| 2 flashes | Pressure switch circuit closed while the inducer is off (switch stuck closed or shorted) |
| 3 flashes | Pressure switch circuit open while the inducer runs (blocked vent or intake, pinched hose, plugged drain) |
| 4 flashes | Primary or auxiliary high-limit circuit open (usually airflow: dirty filter, closed vents, weak blower) |
| 5 flashes | Flame-sense circuit fault: flame sensed when the gas valve should be off, or a short to ground |
| 6 flashes | Flame rollout switch open — a safety lockout; call a technician |
| 7 flashes | Low flame-sense signal (dirty or poorly grounded flame sensor) |
| Rapid flash | 115 V or 24 V polarity reversed |
Codes differ by model and control board. Check the chart on your unit's door panel before acting on any code.
Goodman FAQs
How long do I have to register a Goodman furnace?
Goodman says 60 days from installation, or from purchase of a new home from the builder. Registration takes parts coverage from 5 to 10 years and adds a lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty on gas furnaces.
My Goodman furnace blinks 3 times. What does that mean?
On many Goodman boards it means the pressure switch is open while the inducer is running, often from a blocked vent, a frozen condensate line or a cracked hose. Book furnace repair if clearing the vents does not fix it.
Do new Goodman systems use R-32 or R-454B?
Goodman says its residential heat pump matchups have switched from R-410A to R-32, as have Amana and Daikin.
Are Goodman and Amana the same?
They come from the same corporate family; Amana equipment is manufactured under license by Daikin, which also stands behind Goodman. Models and warranties differ by brand.
