Goodman vs. Amana
Goodman and Amana often show up on the same quote, and many homeowners wonder whether they are paying for a badge. They are closely related: Goodman is a Daikin company, and Amana equipment is manufactured under license by Daikin. The equipment shares a lot. The warranty does not.
The short answer
Goodman and Amana come from the same Daikin family, share control-board diagnostics and both use R-32 in new heat pump systems. The main difference is warranty: select registered Amana models carry a lifetime unit replacement limited warranty, while select Goodman models carry 10 years. Both require registration within 60 days, and Colorado owners must register to get the long terms.
Goodman vs. Amana: side by side
| Goodman | Amana | |

| Registration window | 60 days | 60 days |
| Registered coverage | 10-year parts + lifetime heat exchanger (furnaces); 10-year unit replacement on select models | 10-year parts + lifetime heat exchanger; lifetime unit replacement on select models |

| If not registered | 5-year parts | 5-year parts |
| Notable extra | Lifetime compressor limited warranty on select ACs for the original registered owner | Lifetime unit replacement limited warranty on select registered models |
| New-system refrigerant | R-32 | R-32 |
| Altitude setup (example manual) | Different orifices above 2,000 ft; high-altitude kits listed for some installs | Same manufacturing family as Goodman: orifice changes above 2,000 ft |
| Selling the house | Enhanced coverage stays with the original registered owner | Enhanced coverage stays with the original registered owner |
What is the same
Both brands use the same style of furnace control board, with an LED that flashes a count to report a fault, and the same family of installation manuals, which call for different gas orifices above 2,000 feet. Both have moved new residential heat pump systems to R-32. Parts and service approach overlap heavily.
Where they differ: unit replacement
Registered Goodman equipment gets 10 years of parts, a lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty on gas furnaces, a lifetime compressor limited warranty on select air conditioners and a 10-year unit replacement limited warranty on select models.
Registered Amana furnaces get 10 years of parts and a lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty, and select Amana models carry a lifetime unit replacement limited warranty. That is the main reason Amana is usually priced above Goodman.
The fine print that matters in Colorado
Both brands require online registration within 60 days of installation. California, Florida, Georgia and Quebec residents get registered terms without registering; Colorado residents do not. The enhanced coverage lasts while the original registered owner or spouse owns and lives in the home, so second owners and landlords should check the actual terms before counting on them.
Which to choose
If you plan to stay in the home for many years and the price gap is modest, the longer unit-replacement coverage on select Amana models can be worth it. If you are on a tight budget, a registered Goodman with a quality installation is a reasonable choice. In both cases, altitude setup, correct sizing and duct condition will decide how well the system performs.
What matters more than the logo in Colorado
- Altitude conversion. Every brand’s furnace needs its manual’s high-altitude setup at metro elevations. Ask for the gas-pressure, combustion and temperature-rise numbers at startup. Our altitude calculator shows what it means for heat output.
- A load calculation. A Manual J sized system beats a bigger box from a better brand. See heat pump sizing at altitude.
- Ducts. Leaky or undersized ducts cancel out premium equipment. If one room never keeps up, read why one room is colder.
- Registration. All of these brands cut coverage roughly in half if the equipment isn’t registered on time. Get the confirmation in writing.

Questions
Are Goodman and Amana the same company?
They are part of the same family: Goodman is a Daikin company and Amana equipment is manufactured under license by Daikin. The equipment shares controls and many parts.
Why is Amana more expensive than Goodman?
Mostly because of warranty: select registered Amana models carry a lifetime unit replacement limited warranty, while select Goodman models carry 10 years.
Do I have to register a Goodman or Amana system in Colorado?
Yes. Register online within 60 days of installation; otherwise coverage usually falls back to 5 years of parts.
What refrigerant do new Goodman and Amana heat pumps use?
R-32, along with Daikin. Existing R-410A systems can still be serviced, but the two refrigerants are not interchangeable.
