Trane Repair in Denver
Trane furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps are a staple in Denver homes, and when something goes wrong a red LED on the furnace board usually tells you where to look. Here is how to read those flashes, how Trane's 60-day registration affects coverage, and what to know about Trane's new R-454B lineup. MrFixer repairs Trane systems in or out of warranty.
Common Trane service calls in the Denver metro
Trane owners who search 'Trane error code' are usually staring at a blinking red light on the furnace. In Colorado, the most common causes are ignition lockouts from a dirty flame sensor or failing igniter, pressure switch errors from blocked or iced venting, and open limit switches from clogged filters or closed registers. On the cooling side, we see failed capacitors, contactors pitted by short-cycling, slow refrigerant leaks and coils plugged with cottonwood.
Older Trane heat pumps also get calls during cold snaps, when defrost problems or a weak auxiliary heat strip leaves the house cool. Our heat pump repair visits check the defrost cycle, the outdoor sensors and the backup heat as one system.
Trane's split systems also take a beating from Colorado weather. Spring hail can damage outdoor coils and fan blades, and the big day-to-night temperature swings of shoulder seasons mean a system may heat in the morning and cool in the afternoon, which exposes weak capacitors and contactors quickly. If your Trane outdoor unit hums but the fan does not spin, switch it off at the thermostat; a failed capacitor is a quick repair, but running the compressor without the fan can turn it into an expensive one.
Trane furnace LED flash codes
Many Trane gas furnaces use an integrated control with a red LED that flashes a count, then pauses and repeats. At power-up, some boards replay the last four faults, newest first. The examples below appear in both Trane's service facts for the UH2B-series furnace and an independent service reference covering Trane and American Standard furnaces. Codes vary between control boards, so confirm them with the label in your furnace.
A steady or slow-flashing green or amber light usually just means power is present and the furnace is idle; a fast flash means a call for heat is active. It is the red flash count that indicates a fault. Five flashes, flame sensed with the gas valve off, is a safety concern: shut the gas off at the furnace and call.
Trane warranty registration: 60 days
Trane's Registered Limited Warranty requires registration within 60 days of installation. Registered products typically get 10 years of parts coverage; unregistered products, or those registered late, fall under the Base Limited Warranty, typically 5 years of parts. Neither covers labor, so a warranty part on a Trane repair still comes with a labor charge unless you bought an optional extended warranty.
Trane notes your dealer may register for you, but you should confirm it was done. Registered warranties can transfer to a new owner within 90 days of a home sale for a $99 fee, while products registered before August 1, 2011 cannot be transferred. Look up your serial number on Trane's warranty page before booking a repair.
Altitude, Trane furnaces and Colorado conditions
Like every gas furnace, a Trane furnace installed in the Denver metro must be set up according to the high-altitude section of its installation instructions, which can involve orifice changes and gas pressure adjustment. A furnace that overfires at altitude will trip its limit switch (four red flashes on many Trane boards), while one with marginal venting will throw pressure switch errors (three flashes).
When we answer a Trane heating call, we measure gas pressure, temperature rise and inducer draft against Trane's published values, not sea-level assumptions. That is often how we find the cause behind a furnace that 'works most of the time.' We also look at the condensate trap and drain on 90%-plus models, since a slow drain can back water into the inducer housing and produce the same three-flash pressure switch code as a blocked vent, and the cure is completely different.
Repair or replace, and Trane's newer lineup
Trane has refreshed its residential portfolio around R-454B refrigerant and organized it into three tiers: Premier, Priority and Choice. For example, Trane's Premier 20 TruComfort variable-speed heat pump replaces the earlier XV20i. If your older Trane system uses R-410A, it can still be repaired, but if the outdoor unit fails you will need to plan around coil compatibility with the new refrigerant.
American Standard equipment comes from the same parent company as Trane, and Trane's name also appears on Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US, the company that sells Mitsubishi Electric ductless and heat pump systems here. We repair all of these. For a written comparison of repairing your Trane versus replacing it, or for help deciding between a new furnace and a heat pump, call us any time.

Trane Error Codes
| Code | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| 2 red flashes | Ignition retries or recycles exceeded (lockout) |
| 3 red flashes | Inducer or pressure switch error |
| 4 red flashes | Open limit or rollout switch |
| 5 red flashes | Flame sensed when no flame should be present |
| 6 red flashes | Line voltage polarity reversed |
| 7 red flashes | Gas valve circuit error |
Codes differ by model and control board. Check the chart on your unit's door panel before acting on any code.
Trane FAQs
What does a Trane furnace blinking red 3 times mean?
On many Trane boards, three red flashes indicate an inducer or pressure switch error. In Colorado that is often a blocked or iced vent pipe, a frozen condensate drain or a cracked pressure hose.
How long do I have to register a Trane system?
Trane says 60 days from installation for the Registered Limited Warranty, typically 10 years of parts. After that, the Base Limited Warranty applies, typically 5 years of parts.
Does Trane's warranty cover labor?
No. Trane's Registered and Base Limited Warranties cover parts only; labor coverage requires an optional extended warranty.
Are Trane and American Standard the same?
They come from the same parent company and share much of their engineering, but they are sold as separate brands with their own model names and warranty documents.
Does MrFixer fix Trane equipment after hours?
Yes. We offer 24/7 emergency furnace repair and AC repair across the Denver metro. Call (720) 466-7983.
