AC Installation & Replacement in Henderson

Henderson has had a post office since 1894, and its 80640 ZIP code now also covers newer subdivisions like Hazeltine and Dunes Park, which sit inside Commerce City. That mix means two very different AC jobs and up to four different permit offices. We sort out jurisdiction first, then size the system from a load calculation and quote in writing.

Which office permits your install

Unincorporated Henderson addresses are permitted by Adams County's Community and Economic Development department through its online E-Permit Center. Since July 1, 2026, county work has been reviewed under the 2024 I-codes, and every subcontractor on the permit needs an Adams County registration. Where Commerce City, Brighton or Thornton has annexed land, the permit comes from that city's building division instead. A Henderson mailing address does not tell you which applies, so we check the parcel before filing.

Henderson Climate Note

Open plains location at ~5,000 ft. Wind drives infiltration losses, and rural propane systems are common on larger lots. Hard well water shortens humidifier and water-heater lifespans without proper conditioning.

Neighborhoods We Serve

Potomac Farms, Riverdale Park, Henderson, surrounding rural acreages

Older farmhouses and rural properties

On acreage and around the historic core, many homes were built long before central air and heat with an older furnace, a boiler or a mix of sources added over the years. Adding cooling to a farmhouse often means discovering how the ductwork was extended through past additions. We measure airflow and look at returns before recommending equipment, and when a wing or converted porch has no ducts at all, a ductless head is usually cleaner than a new duct run.

Rural properties also bring longer distances from the panel to a good condenser location and, sometimes, older electrical services. We check the panel's capacity against the new unit's circuit requirement before quoting.

Builder systems in Hazeltine and Dunes Park

The newer subdivisions have tract-built systems that are reaching the age where compressors and coils start to fail. A replacement now means a matched indoor coil, since current condensers use R-454B or R-32, and it is a good moment to correct whatever the original install got wrong, such as a crowded side-yard placement or a missing return upstairs. Most of these neighborhoods have HOA covenants, so check them before a unit moves or grows.

Open plains, wind and hail

Out on the plains, condensers face more wind-driven hail and dust than units in sheltered older neighborhoods. Placement on the lee side of the house, a solid pad and a hail guard where exposure is high all help, and we keep enough clearance that cottonwood fluff and field dust do not clog the coil. At about 5,030 feet, altitude trims coil capacity only modestly, and a Manual J accounts for it alongside sun exposure on west-facing walls.

United Power or Xcel, and pricing a heat pump

Two electric providers split the area: some addresses buy power from United Power, others from Xcel Energy. Utility rebates follow that line, so read your bill before assuming a rebate, and if you are on Xcel, confirm its heat pump amounts, which were revised on October 1, 2026. We quote a heat pump next to every AC here because it handles summer cooling identically and can take over much of the heating, too.

Being an Adams County community puts Henderson inside DRCOG's Power Ahead Colorado territory: $1,500 toward a qualifying cold-climate heat pump in an existing home, reserved by the installer in advance. Colorado layers on $1,000 per air-source unit installed in 2026, at least $333 of it as an invoice discount. Federal 25C money stopped at the end of 2025. Our Colorado incentive guide walks through the paperwork.

Air Conditioning Installation FAQs — Henderson

Does a Henderson address mean Adams County permits?

Not always. Unincorporated parcels go to Adams County, but annexed areas, including Hazeltine and Dunes Park, go to Commerce City, Brighton or Thornton.

Is my home on United Power or Xcel?

It depends on the address. Your electric bill shows which, and rebates follow the utility.

Can a farmhouse with additions get central air?

Usually, after we check how the ducts were extended. Rooms without ducts can get a ductless head.

Do I need a hail guard?

On an exposed plains lot, it is worth considering. We look at the unit's exposure when choosing placement.

How long does an AC installation take?

A straight replacement is usually a one-day job. A first-time install with duct or electrical work can take longer, and permit scheduling adds time; we give you the plan in writing.
