AC Installation & Replacement in Parker

Parker grew from 290 residents in 1980 to more than 58,000 in 2020, so most of its homes and air conditioners came in a few big waves. Many from the 1990s and early 2000s are now due for replacement, and since September 1, 2026, new outdoor AC and heat pump equipment in town needs GFCI protection. We install central AC and heat pumps here with that rule built into the quote, plus a Manual J and the permit.

The GFCI requirement and your electrical circuit

The Town of Parker Building Division now requires ground-fault protection for outdoor residential AC and heat pump equipment, for replacements as well as new installs. Some modern inverter-driven units can nuisance-trip certain GFCI breakers, so the choice of breaker and equipment matters. Your existing circuit, breaker, and disconnect have to be checked, and part of the work may need a licensed electrical contractor.

We include this in every in-town quote so it does not show up as a surprise at inspection. Stonegate and The Pinery are unincorporated, and their permits go through Douglas County Building Division instead.

Parker Climate Note

Parker's higher elevation (5,834 ft) and prairie exposure mean colder winters and stronger winds than central Denver. Cold-climate equipment specs are essential.

Cottonwood and other older Parker homes

Cottonwood's late-1970s to mid-1980s ranches and split-levels are some of the oldest homes in town. Many have their second or third AC, older electrical panels, and ducts sized for heat. A replacement here usually includes measuring static pressure, adding return air if needed, and confirming the panel can take the new circuit along with the GFCI protection.

New split systems use R-454B or R-32 refrigerant, so the indoor coil is replaced with the outdoor unit as a matched pair. A May 2026 EPA rule lets leftover R-410A equipment built before 2025 be installed until it runs out, but it is a shrinking supply.

Stroh Ranch and the early-2000s replacement wave

Stroh Ranch's median build year is 2002, and its original condensers are now past 20 summers. Builders often installed one system for a two-story home with a single thermostat, sized by square footage. A Manual J for your house often shows a different size, and better upstairs return air or zoning can fix comfort problems a bigger unit cannot.

Parker sits around 5,800 to 5,900 feet, where capacity is reduced; industry guidance cited by ACHR News applies about a 0.92 correction at 5,000 feet, and more at this elevation. Hail is frequent on the open plains east of I-25, so we keep condensers away from roof valleys and offer hail guards. These communities have HOAs, so check before a condenser moves.

CORE Electric, Xcel gas, and heat pumps

Most of Parker buys electricity from CORE Electric Cooperative and gas from Xcel Energy. That split matters: Xcel's electric rebates generally do not apply, so ask CORE what it currently offers. A heat pump paired with your Xcel gas furnace is a practical way to cut winter gas use; see our heat pump vs. furnace guide.

Colorado's 2026 air-source heat pump credit is $1,000, claimed by the contractor with at least $333 discounted on your invoice, and Power Ahead Colorado pays $1,500 for cold-climate units filed before work starts. The federal 25C credit ended after 2025. If you are enrolled in CORE's Cool Credits program, we can install a compatible smart thermostat so the new system keeps participating.

Air Conditioning Installation FAQs — Parker

Does the GFCI rule apply if I'm only replacing my condenser?

Yes. Since September 1, 2026, the Town of Parker requires GFCI protection for replacement outdoor AC and heat pump equipment as well as new installs.

I live in The Pinery. Who issues my permit?

Douglas County Building Division, since The Pinery and Stonegate are unincorporated.

Why doesn't Xcel give me an AC rebate?

Most of Parker gets electricity from CORE Electric Cooperative, not Xcel. Check CORE's current programs.

What efficiency will my new system be?

At least 13.4 SEER2 for a split AC or 14.3 SEER2 for a split heat pump. We quote higher tiers too.

Is my Idyllwilde home due for replacement?

Probably not. Idyllwilde's median build year is 2010, so most systems there are mid-life. Owners more often add a ductless unit for a bonus room.
