Furnace Repair in Frederick
Frederick had fewer than 900 homes in 2000 and nearly 5,000 by 2020, so the typical furnace in town is a high-efficiency unit installed by a production builder sometime in the last 25 years. The oldest homes, from the coal-mining era, sit in the original town. We repair both, and because the town's design winter temperature is 1°F, we make sure the fix will hold up through a real cold snap.
Furnaces from a 25-year building boom
Frederick's population grew from 988 in 1990 to 2,467 in 2000 and 8,679 in 2010. Homes from those first boom years often have original furnaces that are now around 20 years old. At that age we commonly replace hot-surface ignitors, flame sensors, inducer motors, pressure switches and blower capacitors.
Because builders installed the same furnace models across entire phases, problems tend to appear in clusters. If neighbors on your street have recently replaced an inducer or control board, yours may be close behind. We'll tell you what we see and whether any preventive work makes sense.

Frederick Climate Note
Frederick sits at about 4,938 ft on the open prairie, with strong winter winds and rapid temperature drops. Sealed-combustion furnaces and well-sealed ductwork are essential.

Condensing furnace problems in newer phases
Most homes built in the 2010s and later, in subdivisions across town from Wyndham Hill to Hidden Creek, have 90%+ condensing furnaces with PVC intake and exhaust. The leading causes of no-heat calls on these units are clogged condensate traps, condensate lines that freeze where they run near an exterior wall, and failed condensate pumps in finished basements.
Vent pipes come next. Sagging horizontal runs can hold water and trip the pressure switch, and side-wall terminations on open lots can be blocked by drifting snow. After a windy storm, check that both PVC pipes outside are clear before calling.
Old Town, Evanston and acreage homes
Frederick started in 1907 as a coal town, and the Frederick mine operated until 1960. Older homes in the original town and in Evanston, an unincorporated section within town limits, may have mid-efficiency furnaces venting through metal flues or old chimneys. We check draft, flue condition and combustion air on these homes.
Larger homes on acreage, such as parcels at Nelson Lakes and in Rinn Valley Ranch, often have more than one furnace or a zoned system. Zone dampers and controls add their own failure points, and we test them along with the furnace. A zone that never warms up is often a stuck damper motor rather than a furnace failure, and finding that saves an unnecessary parts replacement.
Our diagnostic and repair process
Stored fault codes come first; then we watch the furnace step through its startup sequence and check every safety device. Then we take gas pressure, temperature rise and static pressure readings and analyze combustion and carbon monoxide. Trucks are loaded with parts for the brands builders and installers used most, among them Trane, Lennox, Carrier, Goodman, Bryant and Rheem.
You'll see a flat-rate price before we begin. Night and weekend calls are billed at the same rates, the diagnostic is free with an approved repair, and we take emergency calls around the clock.
Replacement, 2024 codes and Black Hills Energy
A single failed part is a repair, even on an older furnace. A failed heat exchanger, poor combustion numbers or several major failures at once usually point to replacement, and we'll give you prices for both.
The Town of Frederick has adopted the 2024 International Residential, Mechanical, Fuel Gas and Energy Conservation codes, along with the Colorado Model Electric Ready and Solar Ready Code, so a replacement has to meet current requirements. The town's welcome kit lists Black Hills Energy for natural gas and United Power for electricity; check both for current rebates, particularly if you're considering a heat pump to pair with a gas furnace.

Furnace Repair FAQs — Frederick
Who supplies gas and electricity in Frederick?
The Town of Frederick lists Black Hills Energy as the natural gas provider and United Power as the electricity provider. If you smell gas, leave the house and call Black Hills Energy.
What codes apply to a furnace replacement in Frederick?
The town has adopted the 2024 International Residential, Mechanical, Fuel Gas and Energy Conservation codes with local amendments. We handle the permit as part of a replacement.
My Wyndham Hill furnace shuts off with a pressure switch code. What's wrong?
Usually a clogged condensate trap, a sagging vent pipe holding water or a blocked intake or exhaust outside. We find the specific cause rather than replacing the switch.
I have two furnaces in a large Rinn Valley Ranch home. Can you service both?
Yes. We service multiple-furnace and zoned systems, including dampers and zone controls.
