Furnace Installation & Replacement in Dacono
Dacono is a former coal town whose housing comes in three groups: 1970s homes from its first growth spurt, manufactured homes, and newer subdivisions like Eagle Meadow, The Glens of Dacono and Sweetgrass. Some homes still cool with evaporative coolers. Each of those affects what kind of furnace, or furnace alternative, makes sense here.
1970s homes on later furnaces
Dacono grew from a few hundred people to more than 2,300 by 1980, and the houses from that period have had at least one replacement furnace. They often share a metal flue with the water heater and have ducts that were sized for low-airflow equipment. When we replace the furnace, we check static pressure and the return. A modern variable-speed blower forced through undersized ducts loses its efficiency advantage and gets noisy.
Basements in these houses were often finished decades after construction, sometimes with supply registers cut into existing trunks and no new returns. We look for those rooms during the estimate, since they're usually the cold ones. Adding a return or two while the furnace is out costs much less than doing it as a separate project.

Dacono Climate Note
At about 5,112 feet in southwestern Weld County, Dacono has typical Front Range winters and dry summer heat, which is why some homes still rely on evaporative cooling.

Manufactured homes
Manufactured homes need a furnace listed for manufactured housing, usually a sealed-combustion downflow unit that draws combustion air from outside and connects to the floor duct. A standard residential furnace isn't a legal substitute. We match the new unit to the duct opening and roof jack and convert it for altitude. Since compliant manufactured-home furnaces are a smaller product category under the 2026 NOx rule, we confirm availability before scheduling.
Swamp-cooled homes: a chance to add a heat pump
If your home cools with an evaporative cooler and you're replacing the furnace, consider a heat pump instead of a furnace alone. It adds central cooling and provides most of your heat, and a gas furnace can stay as backup in a dual-fuel setup. Two incentives can help with the cost: the state's $1,000 credit for air-source heat pumps and a $1,500 Power Ahead Colorado rebate for cold-climate models. Our dual-fuel guide explains how it works.
Sizing and the NOx rule
At 5,112 feet, a gas furnace delivers about 80% of its sea-level input after high-altitude conversion with the right orifices and pressure. We size from a Manual J. Newer homes in Eagle Meadow and Sweetgrass are tighter than the 1970s stock and often need smaller furnaces than you'd guess.
Every gas furnace sold in the state since New Year's Day 2026 has had to hit the 14 ng/J NOx limit or qualify under the latest ENERGY STAR spec. In a home with a shared metal vent, an ultra-low NOx 80% furnace can stay on it. A 97% condensing furnace vents in PVC and needs a drain, and the water heater left on the old vent may need a liner or smaller connector.
Permit and utilities
The City of Dacono's Department of Community Development handles permits, with SAFEbuilt Colorado providing building department services. Replacing or installing heating, cooling or water-heating equipment requires a permit, and the city adopted the 2024 I-Codes effective December 17, 2025. We file and schedule the inspection.
A utility directory lists United Power for electricity and Atmos Energy or Black Hills Energy for natural gas in Dacono. Check your bill for your gas company. With United Power, Xcel's heat pump rebates don't apply, but the state credit and Power Ahead Colorado rebate do.

Furnace Installation FAQs — Dacono
Do I need a permit to replace a furnace in Dacono?
Yes. The city requires a permit to replace or install heating, cooling or water-heating equipment. We file it.
Who supplies gas in Dacono?
It could be Atmos Energy or Black Hills Energy. Check your bill.
I have a swamp cooler. Should I get a heat pump instead of a new furnace?
It is worth pricing. A heat pump adds AC and does most of the heating, with the furnace as backup if you want one.
What furnace goes in a manufactured home?
One listed for manufactured housing, usually a sealed-combustion downflow unit.
