Air Conditioner Repair in Dacono

Not every home in Dacono has central air. Some still use evaporative coolers, many older homes added AC later, and manufactured homes use their own type of system. Newer homes in neighborhoods like Eagle Meadow and Sweetgrass usually have central AC from the builder. We repair central air systems of all kinds and give straight answers when you're considering a switch from a swamp cooler.

Evaporative coolers and central air

Some Dacono homes still use evaporative coolers, which work well in dry Colorado air but struggle on humid summer days and need seasonal maintenance. Homeowners often ask whether to keep the swamp cooler or add central air. The answer depends on the furnace and ductwork: if the home has a forced-air furnace with ducts sized for cooling, adding an AC coil and condenser is usually straightforward.

If the existing ducts are small, or the furnace blower can't move enough air for cooling, the project gets bigger. We'll check the furnace, ducts and electrical panel and explain what the conversion would involve before you commit.

Dacono Climate Note

At about 5,112 feet in southwestern Weld County, Dacono has typical Front Range winters and dry summer heat, which is why some homes still rely on evaporative cooling.

Older homes with add-on AC

Many homes from Dacono's 1970s growth period were built without central air. When AC was added, the coil usually went on top of the existing furnace, using ducts sized for heating. Low airflow causes frozen coils, water around the furnace and rooms that never get comfortable.

On the outdoor side, weak capacitors, pitted contactors and worn fan motors are the most common failures. Older condensers may still use R-22, which is no longer produced, so major refrigerant repairs on those units should be compared against replacement.

Cooling manufactured homes

In manufactured homes, central AC typically uses a coil in the downflow furnace and the same underfloor ducts. That duct system is small and close to the ground, so leaks, crushed sections and disconnected crossovers quickly reduce cooling.

When a manufactured home cools unevenly, we check airflow and duct connections before refrigerant. Fixing a disconnected crossover can make more difference than any work on the outdoor unit.

Newer systems in Eagle Meadow, The Glens and Sweetgrass

Newer homes from builders like Century Communities and Pulte usually come with central AC. Early problems tend to be installation-related: a refrigerant charge never adjusted for the line length, condensate lines without enough slope, or thermostats configured incorrectly. We check the charge with superheat and subcooling and confirm airflow.

If the system is still under warranty, we'll note what we found so you can file a claim for qualifying parts.

Getting more life out of an older AC

The cheapest AC repair is the one you avoid. Replace the filter at the start of summer and check it monthly, keep two feet of clearance around the outdoor unit, and hose off the coil gently from the top down with the power off if you can see dust or cottonwood buildup. Pour a little water into the condensate drain access in spring to make sure it flows.

Pay attention to changes: longer run times, ice on the copper line at the outdoor unit, a new buzzing or rattling sound, or water near the furnace. Calling at the first sign usually means a smaller repair than waiting until the system stops on a 95-degree afternoon.

Our process, pricing and permits

We test the thermostat, capacitor, contactor and fan motor, measure refrigerant pressures and indoor airflow, and inspect the condensate drain. If the charge is low, we find the leak before adding refrigerant. You approve a flat-rate price before work begins, with no overtime fees, and the diagnostic is free with the repair.

Replacing or installing cooling equipment in Dacono requires a city permit, with SAFEbuilt Colorado performing the inspection under the 2024 codes the city adopted in December 2025. We handle the permit when we do the work.

Air Conditioner Repair FAQs — Dacono

Should I replace my swamp cooler with central air?

It depends on your goals and your ductwork. Central air handles humid days better and needs less seasonal upkeep, but the furnace and ducts must be able to support it. We'll check and give you a clear answer.

Does adding central AC in Dacono require a permit?

Yes. The city requires a permit to install or replace cooling equipment, and SAFEbuilt Colorado inspects the work.

Why does one end of my manufactured home stay warm with the AC on?

Usually a leaking or disconnected crossover duct or underfloor duct. We check airflow and duct connections first.

My AC hums but doesn't start. What's wrong?

Most often a failed capacitor. Turn the system off to protect the compressor and call for service.
