Ductless Mini-Split Installation in Dacono
Dacono jumped from a few hundred residents to more than 2,300 by 1980, then added subdivisions such as Eagle Meadow, The Glens and Sweetgrass. The older housing often cools with evaporative coolers and some homes are manufactured, which makes ductless mini-splits practical. The 2024 codes the city adopted in December 2025 apply.
Replacing evaporative coolers in 1970s homes
A lot of Dacono homes from the 1970s growth spurt still rely on an evaporative cooler. They work well on dry days but fall short during humid stretches and need seasonal service. A mini-split gives real air conditioning and also provides efficient heat, so one installation covers two jobs. When the cooler comes out, we close its opening properly so it doesn't leak air all winter.
In a compact 1970s ranch, two heads, one in the living area and one in the hallway near the bedrooms, can cover most of the house.

Dacono Climate Note
At about 5,112 feet in southwestern Weld County, Dacono has typical Front Range winters and dry summer heat, which is why some homes still rely on evaporative cooling.

Planning a whole-house ductless system
For an older Dacono house that wants heating and cooling everywhere, a multi-zone outdoor unit with two to four heads is common. Each head is sized to its room, and doors matter: a bedroom with the door closed at night needs its own head. If two areas are far apart, two single-zone systems can outperform one long-run multi-zone unit.
Keep the existing furnace if it's in good shape. The mini-split can carry most of the heating, with the furnace taking over on the coldest nights.
Manufactured homes
In manufactured homes, belly ducts are often too small for central air. Ductless heads avoid them. We fasten heads to framing, set the outdoor unit on its own pad instead of attaching it to the home, and keep the line set clear of skirting. See our mini-split guide for older homes.
Newer homes in Eagle Meadow, The Glens and Sweetgrass
The newer subdivisions have ducted systems, so a mini-split usually serves a basement, a bonus room or a converted garage. Check HOA rules on outdoor equipment first.
Installation steps
On install day we mount the heads, drill one penetration per head, set the outdoor unit, flare the copper line set, pressure-test it with nitrogen and pull a deep vacuum before releasing refrigerant. That vacuum is what protects the system from moisture and slow leaks. We finish by showing you the remote and filter.
Sizing and freeze protection
Weld County's heating design temperature is 0°F. We choose cold-climate models with published output in single digits, size each head from a room-by-room load, and raise outdoor units above snow on stands. Indoor condensate runs to an interior drain or pump, since outdoor drain lines freeze.
Permits and code
The City of Dacono's Department of Community Development, with SAFEbuilt Colorado providing building department services, requires a permit for installing or replacing heating, cooling or water-heating equipment. The 2024 I-Codes took effect December 17, 2025. We take care of the application and the inspection visit.
United Power is listed as Dacono's electric provider. Each outdoor unit needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit. Older homes and manufactured homes sometimes have small panels, so we check before quoting a multi-zone system.
Incentives
Dacono is a DRCOG member, so Power Ahead Colorado's $1,500 rebate can apply to cold-climate heat pumps in existing homes when we submit before installation. The 2026 Colorado credit is another $1,000, with $333 or more coming off your invoice up front. Black Hills Energy has no heat pump measure, and United Power's 2026 amounts weren't verified. The federal 25C credit ended after 2025.
