AC Installation & Replacement in Dacono

Dacono's housing comes in three types: 1970s-era homes from the town's first growth spurt, manufactured homes, and newer neighborhoods such as Sweetgrass, Eagle Meadow and The Glens of Dacono. Some of the older homes still cool with evaporative coolers. We install central air and heat pumps across all three, with a load calculation, the city permit and a written price.

Converting from an evaporative cooler

Evaporative coolers are cheap to run on dry days but lose their punch when humidity rises in late summer, and they need spring start-up and fall draining. Switching to refrigerated air means pulling the cooler, sealing and flashing the roof or wall opening, capping the water supply and closing off any duct or ceiling grille it used. An unsealed cooler grille is a big winter heat leak, so this step matters.

Then the furnace becomes part of the cooling system. A 1970s furnace may not have the blower capacity for a coil, and if it is near the end of its life, replacing it at the same time keeps the system matched.

Some owners like to keep the cooler for spring evenings. That only works if it discharges through its own grille with a damper that seals tightly the rest of the year; otherwise it costs more in heat loss than it saves.

Dacono Climate Note

At about 5,112 feet in southwestern Weld County, Dacono has typical Front Range winters and dry summer heat, which is why some homes still rely on evaporative cooling.

Neighborhoods We Serve

Eagle Meadow, The Glens of Dacono, Sweetgrass, Strata, original town

Manufactured homes

Manufactured homes usually have a downflow furnace and ducts in the belly. Cooling options are a split AC with a matched coil or a packaged unit beside the home tied into the floor duct. We inspect the belly duct first, because torn or disconnected sections are common and waste much of the cooling. Older homes may have small electrical services, so we confirm the panel can support the condenser before choosing equipment.

Replacing builder systems in newer subdivisions

In Eagle Meadow, The Glens of Dacono and Sweetgrass, the questions are about replacement and fit. New condensers use R-454B or R-32 refrigerant, so the indoor coil changes too; we check the line set and the return sizing at the same time. HOAs in these neighborhoods may have rules on visible equipment, so check before a condenser moves. At about 5,110 feet, a Manual J accounts for the modest altitude loss in capacity without oversizing.

Permits through the city and SAFEbuilt

Dacono's Community Development department relies on SAFEbuilt Colorado for plan review and inspections, and a permit is required whether cooling equipment is new or a replacement. Work is checked against the 2024 I-codes, in force since mid-December 2025. Filing and inspection scheduling are part of our job.

Your utility and pricing a heat pump

For electricity, the directory we checked shows United Power; for gas, Atmos Energy first, with Black Hills Energy also listed. Your bills settle it. As a United Power member you would look to the co-op, not Xcel, for any equipment rebate.

Because a heat pump is essentially an AC that also runs in reverse, the price gap is often small, and it can shoulder much of the winter heating. In 2026, Colorado's credit is $1,000 for each air-source heat pump, claimed by a registered contractor who passes at least $333 to you as a discount, and Power Ahead Colorado's $1,500 cold-climate rebate is limited to the DRCOG region, and only part of Weld County is inside it; we confirm your parcel first. There is no federal 25C credit after 2025. See our heat pump cost guide for regional ranges.

Air Conditioning Installation FAQs — Dacono

Can I keep my swamp cooler after adding central air?

You can if it has its own outlet and seals tightly when off. Otherwise remove it and patch the opening.

Can a manufactured home in Dacono get central air?

Yes, with a split system or packaged unit, after we inspect the belly ducts and electrical service.

Is a permit required for an AC swap in Dacono?

Yes. Both new and replacement cooling equipment need one, reviewed by SAFEbuilt for the city.

Which utility rebates can I use?

That follows your electric provider, which a directory lists as United Power. Your bill confirms it.

How long does a swamp cooler conversion take?

Usually one to two days, depending on whether the furnace is replaced and how much roof and duct repair the old cooler leaves behind.
