Ductless Mini-Split Installation in Firestone
Firestone grew from under 2,000 residents in 2000 to more than 16,000 by 2020, and almost all of that growth came as production subdivisions. In those homes a ductless mini-split usually solves one room the main system can't handle. Historic Firestone, the small older core, is where a whole-house ductless system makes sense.
Hot second floors and garage-top rooms
Saddleback, St. Vrain Ranch, Oak Meadows and Mountain Shadows are full of two-story houses where a single system and one thermostat try to serve both floors. Heat rises, ducts to the far upstairs bedroom are long, and a room over the garage has hot space below it. A single head in the worst room usually fixes the complaint.
If you'd rather tackle the whole upstairs, a multi-zone unit with one head per bedroom gives each room its own setting.

Firestone Climate Note
At about 4,856 feet on the plains of southwestern Weld County, Firestone has cold, windy winter spells and hot summer afternoons that test aging AC systems.

How heads are sized and placed
We size each head from the room's actual heat gain, which depends on window area, orientation and what's below it. A room over a garage or with a large west window gets more capacity than a same-size interior bedroom. We place the head on an interior wall where possible so the line set runs through the attic or a closet, and aim airflow toward the bed or desk, not straight down onto it.
Quiet matters in bedrooms, so we pick heads with low sound ratings at low speed, where they'll spend most of the night.
Barefoot Lakes and HOA rules
Barefoot Lakes launched in 2016, and like most master-planned communities it has design guidelines for exterior equipment. Before we install, get your HOA's approval for the condenser location, the line-set cover and color. Side yards between houses are often tight, so we use wall brackets where pads won't fit.
A typical install day
A single-zone install usually takes one day. After mounting and line-set routing, we pressure-test with nitrogen and pull a deep vacuum before releasing refrigerant. Then we commission the system, set it up for cold-weather heating and show you the filter.
Historic Firestone
The older homes in Historic Firestone may have small furnaces and no central air. Two or three ductless heads can provide cooling and efficient heat without new ductwork. Our guide to mini-splits in older homes explains the layouts.
Cold-weather installation details
Weld County's heating design temperature is 0°F, and Firestone sits near 4,856 feet. We size from a room-by-room load and choose units with published output in single digits. The condenser goes on a stand above drifting snow; indoor condensate runs to an interior drain or pump, since outdoor drain tubes freeze.
Permits and electrical
The Town of Firestone Building Division, on Park Avenue, issues permits; its fee schedule shows that new air conditioning adds an electrical fee, and a mini-split needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit and disconnect. We pull the permit and handle both inspections. Newer homes usually have panel room.
Utilities and incentives
Black Hills Energy and United Power are listed for Barefoot Lakes; confirm your providers on your bill. Black Hills' 2026 rebate form has nothing for heat pumps, and we couldn't verify United Power's current numbers. If Xcel serves your address, confirm its current rebates, which changed October 1, 2026.
Firestone is a DRCOG member, so Power Ahead Colorado's $1,500 rebate can apply to existing homes when we submit before installation; new construction is excluded. Colorado also offers a $1,000 credit in 2026 that we claim for you, passing at least $333 through as a discount. The federal 25C credit has ended.

Ductless Mini-Split Installation FAQs — Firestone
Will one head fix my hot upstairs bedroom?
Usually. A head sized to that room's heat gain handles it without changing the main system.
Do I need HOA approval in Barefoot Lakes?
Yes. Get approval for the outdoor unit location and line-set cover first.
Is there an electrical permit?
Yes. Firestone adds an electrical fee for new AC. We handle both inspections.
Do utility rebates apply?
It depends on your provider. Black Hills lists no heat pump measure; check United Power or Xcel.
Does Power Ahead apply to my new home?
Not while under construction. Existing homes qualify.
How long does installation take?
Usually one day for a single zone and two for a multi-zone system, plus the town inspection.
